Located on Virginia Commonwealth University’s MCV Campus in Richmond, and in partnership with the VCU Health System, the Office of the Senior Vice President for Health Sciences oversees the five health sciences schools (Allied Health Professions, Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy) as well as the Massey Cancer Center. Areas of responsibility include academic affairs, academic and research space management, financial and administrative affairs, and Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Care.
More than 4,100 students each year participate in more than 50 degree programs offered at the undergraduate, graduate and first-professional levels as well post-baccalaureate and post-master’s certificate programs.
As a growing academic health sciences center, VCU Health Sciences maintains an aggressive research portfolio. Total research awards amounted to approximately $161 million in fiscal year 2019, which represented approximately 52 percent of the university’s total research awards.

Jay Bonfili is the VCU Senior Associate Vice President for Health Sciences - Finance and Administration at Virginia Commonwealth University. The Senior Associate VP has financial and administrative responsibility for all the schools within health sciences. Additionally, the Senior Associate VP serves as VCU's health sciences administrative liaison with our partner Health System.

Alan Dow, M.D., M.S.H.A. is Assistant Vice President of Health Sciences for Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Care at Virginia Commonwealth University. He oversees the creation, implementation, and dissemination of research, education, and clinical programs designed to enhance collaborative practice and improve patient outcomes. He also directs the Center for Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Care at VCU and is responsible for developing, implementing, and studying initiatives in interprofessional education and collaborative practice across the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Allied Health, and Social Work, VCU Health System and the surrounding community.

Dr. David C. Sarrett received his D.M.D. from the University of Florida College of Dentistry in 1977. He served as instructor, assistant professor and then associate professor of operative dentistry at the University of Florida from 1978 until 1993.
